The Palestrina Choir
The Cathedral Choir of the Archdiocese of Dublin
For over one hundred years, the Palestrina Choir of St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral has grown into a much-loved and respected institution which continues to develop its unparalleled reputation for the singing of sacred music.
The ministry of the choir links Saint Mary’s Pro-Cathedral with its sister cathedrals throughout the world. A central mission of cathedral life is, through the Sacred Liturgy, to lift the human heart in the praise and worship of God, “beauty ever ancient, ever new” (St Augustine).
The Palestrina Choir, in its consistent excellence in expressing – through sacred music – the most sublime creativity of the human spirit, continues the time-honoured tradition of cathedral music which connects those at all stages of the pilgrim journey through life with the One who inspires all creativity.
The choir sings three weekly liturgies at St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral during choir term.
||Solemn Latin Mass (Ordinary Form ‘Novus Ordu’)
|| Vespers (Sung Evening Prayer) and Benediction Boys' voices
|| Sung Mass Boys' voices
The choir sings the 11.00am Mass on Holy Days of obligation and sings on other Solemnities and Feast days of the Church as announced.
Details of concerts, tours and other special events can be found on the events page.
During July and August and during the first week after both Christmas Day and Easter Sunday the choir is on holidays. The 11.00 Sunday Mass is sung by visiting choirs and cantors during these periods.
